The Bec scully memorial cup 2022

As the most sought-after title of the EM year, the Bec Scully Memorial Cup (BSMC) is an afternoon of highly competitive, always amusing, and sometimes spicy, croquet held in memory of our good friend Bec — a teammate who was lost all too early to cancer.

For BSMC 2022, double-denim was the entry fee, and A-games were a recommended (but not always adopted) extra. So with more denim than a Canadian tuxedo store, the games began.

The day was full of fist-bumps, ball-jumps, unexpected (and expected) upsets, world-class shots, not-even-local-comedy-club-class banter, delectable sandwiches, and, of course, the coldest beer in all the land.

After a play-packed afternoon, the grand final featured two of EM’s creative powerhouses, Moss and Liddy, going up against our two special guests, Dan and Joel. It was a well-fought match (mainly between Joel and Dan). But, in the end, Joel, Bec’s husband, triumphed — lifting the cup for the first time in a spectacular and most-deserving fashion. Hat tips ahoy. Bec would have been proud.

Honourable mentions.

Tessa for winning the not-so-coveted Wooden Spoon for the second consecutive year.

Dishonourable mentions.

EM CEO and last year’s champ, Tim, for barely making it through the first round.
