2020 in review
365 days. One massive year.
Whelp, it’s mid-December.
Can someone please explain how this happened? Because it feels like yesterday yet also forever ago that twelve of us entered 2020, full of naive expectation for the year ahead.
Now, we number twenty-four. We’ve lived through lock downs and worked together remotely. We’ve shared virtual drinks and more Zoom huddles and meetings than I care to count. We’ve come together face-to-face for team days, then faced off across the croquet court. We even launched a gallery.
We formed contingency plans for a lack of work, then dealt with more work than we should reasonably have been able to handle. We’ve tackled ridiculous deadlines, while maintaining an exceptionally high standard. We’ve won awards. We’ve helped collaborators from around the world overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges.
It’s been… a lot.
But although this year sure hasn’t been easy, if I had to summarise it with one word that wasn’t exhaustion, it would be pride.
Heck, our team and our collaborators shouldered an enormous burden. The responsibility for shifting the way teams work; maintaining safety, wellness and wellbeing; moving onboarding and training into virtual channels, and safeguarding the employee experience in the face of fear and uncertainty.
But not only did everyone rise to the challenge, more importantly, they did it while looking out for each other. Perhaps it took the pressure of the pandemic to reinforce that we’re all in this together, but our relationship with each other and our collaborators has never been stronger.
It’s been wild. It’s been challenging. But above all, it’s been an unexpectedly rewarding year.
Thanks for sharing it.
